I think ‘mini trips’ can be fun, invigorating, and take one out of a routine enough to recharge our travel batteries! Change of scenery is good for the soul.

Couldn’t agree more! I used to think they weren’t worth the effort but you’re so right about the change of scenery.

I can get excited about the thought of no cooking or clean up for a few days! LOL

Your reluctance would be mine as well, very relatable. As was the moment you felt the joy of travel.

Thanks for reading! Glad it was relatable :)

I totally get this feeling! And like you, I usually end up glad I took the trip!

I just need to remember that moment when I’m mid packing or mid booking to inspire me!

Sometimes it's just nice to go where it's easy, especially with young children.

Some places are where we go to be stimulated and seek new adventures, and some places are better for recharging and replenishing our souls. We need both.

We visit Vancouver Island every summer for a week to recharge (our summers in Texas are brutal). We wander through the endless gardens (yes, Butchart's, but Abkhazi and the Finnerty Garden are favs too); we visit Sidney bakery up north everyday for treats (not Mondays); we walk in the emerald woods; we eat whatever berry is in season (bc there is always one); and if we're missing a bit of Europe, a visit to The Market Garden

for goodies does the trick(found Tiptree Little Scarlet jam last year after missing it in London).

I'm firmly convinced, thanks to your reporting, I'll continue to avoid the seaplane (I love the ferry ride), but my husband can go take a joyride in the harbor!

Aw I love this perspective! Yes, different types of trips serve different purposes. And I love that you make an annual summer trip to Vancouver Island. Your itinerary sounds wonderful - you’re giving me some great ideas for our next trip back!

So glad you took the trip & enjoyed it! You really live in one of the most amazing places in the world, with so much to see & do.

The seaplane is something I am very unsure about—ha! The thought of it makes me very nervous but the quick time is impressive. My husband & I were in Vancouver last summer & ended up taking a day trip over to Vancouver Island, using the bus/skytrain/bus/ferry method (& then some more buses and Lyfts while there)—not our best idea ever because of the time factor. We should have researched more thoroughly and stayed at least 1 night in Victoria; a day trip was not enough time to see much on the island and I was worried about missing the last ferry out if we didn’t get back to the terminal in time. I loved the ferry though—most relaxing way I’ve travelled in years.

Thank you! Yeah I’m undecided on the seaplane. The views are beautiful and the time saving is huge. Definitely a good choice for a day trip! But I agree that the ferry is so beautiful and relaxing. We also hit some rough turbulence on the way back so I wasn’t feeling well and our poor daughter just screamed for about 20 mins. Thank goodness it was on the way back home and not the way there!
